Christmas 2010?
In the spirit of avoiding crowds and chaos, we decided to go down to Honolulu Hale after Christmas with some friends to take some pictures with our kids. It worked out perfectly because we were able to take our time with the pictures (anyone who has tried to get 3 kids under 2 yrs of age to smile at a camera simultaneously will understand), and still maintain our senses of humor and sanity.
The jewel of the night was when we got all 3 of our kids into the postcard picture:
Here are the rest of the pictures:
Happy New Year & Happy Birthday Grandma Yamauchi!
New Year’s started out pretty quiet for us. Hannah crashed out at 11pm, and we went to bed right after midnight because I had to get up the next morning to take my brother in law to the airport pretty early.
But every New Year’s day is more special for our family because it’s Dawn’s Mom’s birthday! So we brought Hannah over to celebrate her Grandma’s birthday.
Here a few pictures from the mini-celebration we had…Hannah’s cousins (Christian, Jenna, and Jojo) were away on their Disneyland vacation so it’s was just us
Taking over…
While we were in Maui, Hannah got used to crawling around and climbing furniture. We decided to create a little more space for her to move around in. So Hannah’s now taken over our little living room…
I believe that a picture should tell a story…these next two pictures tell an incomplete story…I would have taken the last picture to complete the story, but I had to drop my camera to stop the potentially disastrous ending to the story.
Shot day for Hannah :P
I hate shots, but for Hannah it’s just the momentary pain of the needle, so it’s not a big deal. A little bit of crying after, but once it’s done, she’s fine.
Contrast that with how I handle shots…2-3 days of anxiety prior to the shot, complete terror for 1 hour prior to the shot, and then 1 minute of paralyzing fear as the nurse applies the rubbing alcohol…must be nice to be a baby….
Last day in Maui :(
When we got here we had no clue that our little Hannah had a pent up desire to crawl and stand up, and she refused to let my parents hold her. Ten days later, Hannah’s scooting around the floor, pulling herself up on anything she can find (couches, chairs, tables, people’s legs), and dancing the tango with her Lolo and Lola. We took a couple of hundred pictures of her, and Gigs of HD video footage of her.
She may never remember what her first Christmas was like, but we’ll never forgot it! Here are some final pictures on the plane ride back.
Hannah didn’t feel like sleeping, and we couldn’t stop her from touching every visible surface on the plane, so we had to put a pair of socks on her hands.
Hannah’s First Christmas
I’m sure for our daughter, this Christmas was really just a day when she was forced to wear her santa hat, change outfits multiple times for multiple pictures, and rip paper off of boxes…for Dawn and I it was fun to watch her laugh and smile at everything that was going on around her. Today was filled with another drive to Ho’okipa to see the giant surf (that closed the park down) and then take a bunch of pictures and videos of Hannah.

Christmas eve…daytime…
The surf is coming up on the North shore of Maui so we decided to take Hannah out to see big waves…another thing she really doesn’t understand (waves, ocean, water), so it was really more for me and Dawn. We got stuck in Paia traffic, and for some reason Hannah was screaming all the way from outside of Paia to Ho’okipa. Later we found out it was because she went #2 and didn’t enjoy sitting in it during the car ride.
In any case, here is the video of Hannah @ Ho’okipa…
Iao Valley and more growing up
Today we decided to take Hannah to see Iao Valley, but the reality is she didn’t really care because she has no idea what a valley is, or what a mountain is…it’s all just green, which she doesn’t really understand yet either. In any case, here’s Hannah and Mom at the place Hannah will probably remember as green and outside
as well as some pictures her Lolo took of her standing up and posing, and also doing her power crawl around the floor.
Too Much of a Good Thing…
Today my dad was able to score us some monster Maui lobsters from one of his friends. These are the biggest lobsters that I think I’ve ever seen. I can usually go through 2 lobster tails without blinking, but I struggled to get through one of these bad boys.
One of the bigger ones was as long as little H’s leg…I think if she had her way, she would have taken a shot at riding them…
Hannah’s 2nd day in Maui
Hannah had a tough time adjusting to a new playpen, a really dark room at night, and the sound of the ocean instead of cars on H1. She woke up a couple of times, but somehow managed to get up early with tons of energy…
